Privacy policy

This page explains what personal data this website collects, why, and what you can do about it. It is short because we collect very little.

Who we are

This website is run by Aurora Surveillance, founded by Alimul Ghani and Ishmam Ahmed. Aurora Surveillance is not yet a registered company, so for now the founders are responsible for the personal data described here.

What we collect

  • When you email us. If you write to us, for example to book a walkthrough or ask for the deck, we receive your email address, your name if you give it, and whatever you write.
  • Analytics, only if you accept. If you accept analytics cookies, Google Analytics records which pages you view, how you arrived, your device and browser type, and an approximate location worked out from your IP address. Google Analytics does not store IP addresses. If you reject or ignore the banner, Google's script is never loaded.
  • Visit counts without cookies. Vercel Web Analytics counts page views without cookies and without identifying you. It records the page, the site that linked to it, your country and your browser, device and operating system type.
  • Server logs. Our host, Vercel, keeps short-lived technical logs of requests to the site, including IP addresses, to run and protect it.

Why we use it

  • Replying to you: our legitimate interest in answering people who contact us and arranging walkthroughs.
  • Google Analytics: your consent, which you can withdraw at any time from Cookie settings at the foot of every page.
  • Cookieless visit counts and server logs: our legitimate interest in understanding how the site is used and keeping it secure.

We do not sell personal data, use it for advertising or build profiles of visitors.

Cookies and browser storage

  • _ga and _ga_ cookies (Google Analytics): set only after you accept. They tell visits apart and last up to two years. Choosing Reject in Cookie settings deletes them.
  • aurora-analytics-consent (kept in your browser's local storage, not a cookie): remembers whether you accepted or rejected analytics, so the banner does not keep coming back.

The site sets no other cookies. Its fonts are served from this site, not loaded from Google.

Who else handles it

  • Vercel hosts the site and provides the cookieless visit counts.
  • Google provides Google Analytics, only if you accept.
  • Our email provider stores the messages you send us.

Some of these providers process data in the United States. Where they do, the transfer is covered by safeguards recognised under UK data protection law, such as the UK Extension to the EU-US Data Privacy Framework or standard contractual clauses. Links to LinkedIn and SSRN take you to sites with their own privacy policies.

How long we keep it

  • Emails: as long as we need them to deal with your enquiry and any follow-up.
  • Google Analytics data: no longer than 14 months.
  • Server logs and visit counts: for a limited period, under Vercel's own retention rules.

Your rights

You can ask us for a copy of the personal data we hold about you, and ask us to correct it, delete it, or stop or limit using it. Where we rely on your consent, you can withdraw it at any time. Email us and we will reply within one month.

If you are unhappy with how we handle your data, you can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office (ico.org.uk) in the UK, or to the data protection authority where you live in the EU. We would appreciate the chance to put it right first.

Changes

If we change how we handle personal data, we will update this page and the date at the top.
